The Korea Child Fund has sponsored its second “Low Cost House Series” project in order to improve the living environment of households with low-incomes. Designed by JYA-RCHITECTS inside small village of Jangheung town inside southeastern province of South Korea, this Low Cost House provides shelter for just a family of seven. The architects used shipping containers and lightweight gauge framing to supply an inspiring demonstration of how green design can overcome the tight budget.

The construction and design team examined the stipulations of the family’s existing home and located that the physical and environmental conditions were too poor to renovate. Therefore, they chosen to knock down your home and rebuild it. The team then evaluated the massive budget issue and decided that multiple cost-cutting measures may be implemented through innovative building methods. First, they decide to build a ‘container house’ that minimizes site work and construction time. Their second design innovation included around the ‘container house’ using a light gauge structure to produce an insulating layer and outer living space all around the interior rooms.

This “Low Cost House” gives new meaning to sustainable and social responsibility in design. JYA-RCHITECTS, produced team of Ra Kwonsu, and also the Korea Child Fund been employed together to supply a better life for an additional pair family in South Korea. The team offered a sustainable choice to bridge the cost-effective gap from the construction cost, and proved that sustainability may be affordable.
